"Sensing The Seasons"

Objective:
The students will be able to identify words and pictures for each of the five senses that appropriately describe each season.

Anticipatory Set:
Show students pictures of each season; let them choose their favorite season and tell why they like it best.

Procedures: (Model/Lead/Test Format)

Initial Instruction:    The teacher will:
1. Tape pictures of each of the five senses on the board in a circle.
2. Review with students that the five senses are taste, touch, smell, sight, and sound.
3. Write the word SPRING in the middle of the circle.
4. Ask students to describe what they taste in Spring, touch in Spring, smell in Spring, see in Spring and hear in Spring.
5. Write each description under the appropriate sense.

Guided Practice:

Check for Understanding
6. Continue with each of the four seasons, allowing students to come up to write their descriptive words on the board.
7. Instruct students to list each sense in a circle on their paper as I did, on the board.
8. Ask students to choose their favorite season and put at least one descriptive word and picture for each sense that they experience in, that particular season.
9. Help individual students.

Independent Practice:

10. Instruct students to use Kidspiration: Science: Seasons to create a Senses, Web each season.

Formative Evaluation:

Evaluation:
The teacher will check students work for accurate descriptive words for each season. The teacher will check for 5 appropriate descriptive words and pictures for each of the four seasons. Criteria: 90% mastery for the 20 words and pictures.
