What’s The Weather

Objective:
Using Reader Rabbit, "Capers on Cloud 9," students will create a calendar using appropriate symbols and stickers to track the weather.

Anticipatory Set:
Discuss with students the importance of tracking and recording weather patterns.

Procedures (Model/Lead/Test Format):

Initial Instruction: The teacher will:
1. Review pictures of the four seasons and discuss with the students the weather conditions of the seasons.
2. Show students the four weather symbols we will use to track the weather over a month on our calendars, including a sun, clouds, rain, snow.
3. Model filling in a calendar on the overhead of the weather each day.

Guided Practice:
Checking for understanding (recognition to recall)

4. Give students their own practice calendar.
5. Direct students to complete a "made up" weather pattern for the day.
6. Work with individual students who need help.

Independent Practice:

7. Distribute individual calendars and weather symbols to students for the current month.
8. Instruct students to determine the weather each morning for a month and to fill in their calendars appropriately.
9. Students will use reader rabbit to create calendars tracking the weather. They will choose appropriate seasonal stickers and weather symbols.
Formative Evaluation:

Evaluation:
The teacher will check for accurate recording of weather data. Criteria: 90% mastery on determining and recording weather data.
