This software would need to be pre-taught. It is compatible with many of the market's word prediction and screen reader software applications. The menus are somewhat standardized across the applications with additional menus and items added according to the application.

Can be used as a tool for creative writing in language arts and basic computer drawing skills.

Does not require reading proficiency because explanatory pictures are provided. Easy to determine what to do without having to read an instruction manual. Most special education students with basic reading skills could work independently in this software.

Reader Rabbit Capers on Cloud Nine (1st Grade)by: The Learning Company

Allows a student to practice skills in reading, math, science, and problem solving. Website www.readerrabbit.com contains easy to print worksheets and other activities designed to compliment the software. A school version is also available which includes additional activities and lesson plans. The software provides a progress tracking report.

The software will automatically set the skill level or you can set the skill level you want. The student will be able to quickly use once the software has been pre-taught. Graphics are friendly and inviting.

Timeliner 5.0By: Tom Snyder

Graphic organizer that can be used Cross Curricular. Can be used as a tool for the teacher to introduce a topic or to tie the parts of a topic together. Can also be used as a tool for story ideas.

You would need to pre-teach this software for student use. You can view the timeline in several modes so that you can see the entire timeline or focus in on a particular piece of the timeline.

Animated KidsMemo 2.0

This is a fun tool that can be used to practice vocabulary or concepts such as opposites, antonyms, synonyms, etc… Makes rote learning a little easier to work with.

The tiles can contain animated pictures but they can be disabled if they prove to be distracting. You can choose from 4, 12, 20 or 48 tiles so that ability levels can be addressed.
